Higher level thinking skills- looking at Guernica

 

Knowledge	the recall of specific information ·Who was Pablo Picasso?      ·Where did he live?  And what country do his paintings depict?  ·What is happening in the painting? ·What is a mural?
Comprehension	an understanding of what has been viewed and of other work by the artist ·What What sort of scene is being depicted in this painting? ·What What kind of painting is this?    ·WherWhere might this picture have been painted?   ·What How can you tell us about the people in the picture, just by looking and thinking?                         ·Can  Can you suggest what historical context this might relate to?
Application	the converting of abstract content to concrete situations – applying what is know n and understood to real situations ·If Picasso were painting at this time in history what might he use as inspiration? What would make him angry or passionate? ·If you were to create a similar styled painting what would you do differently? ·Did Picasso draw from observation? Where do you think he found his inspiration for the painting? ·Can you describe the stages the artist may have gone through from start to finish to complete this painting?
Analysis	the comparison and contrast of the content to personal experiences ·How would people react when they first saw this? Have peoples reactions changed in our times?  ·Would this look different in colour? What colours would you add? What text would you add?      ·Do you think the painting is an honest description of the event taking place?          ·If this event happened in your house- what would you include in your scene?    ·If you had to put a soundtrack to this painting, what would it be?

Riots, Hate, Love, Football, marriage. ·What would you change to make it relevant to today’s wars against terrorism? ·What other way could you make a portrait that tells us more about the person in the picture?
Evaluation	the judgment and evaluation of characters, actions, outcome, etc., for personal reflection and understanding ·Do you think Guernica is a real event?                            ·Why do you think Picasso wanted to paint this portrait? ·What does the style of painting tell you about Guernica?                                                       ·Can we learn anything about Picasso’s personality and feelings from this painting?                              ·Do you think this is an honest painting?               ·Would you want to make your painting of war or terror  like Picasso?  or how would you make it different ?                       ·How does this painting compare to other images that deal with this theme? ·Why do artists make paintings like this and is it still relevant for today’s audience.

The Art of Protest

Young people are being encouraged to get involved with a new project which promotes the art of peaceful, non-violent protest.
Taking place at the People's History Museum in Manchester in Spring 2013.
This could be an great theme to explore for your Unit 3 plus enter some work for the exhibition.

You can submit entries in a wide range of formats, including photography, painting, performances, sculpture, film and poetry.

Virtual porfolios

Here is an example from last years unit 3 Graphics in which a student created a virtual sketchbook to showcase his personal project. I was used alongside his sketchbook but could also be classed as a final outcome in itself. This was done on a mac but similar concepts could be done on programmes from a PC aswell.

Try and use your blog as a working journal over the next 4 to 5 months. If you find useful sites that help you in your research or find useful videos then you can add links into your blogs to show what you've been looking at.
Share your posts with each other and get used to commenting and offering advice.
Document your observations and as well as editing with Photoshop try and find what other editing tools are out there for free. For example- free dowload for PHOTOSCAPE which is a quick way to edit and add some clean effects, especially if you don't have Photoshop at home. ( once again- if you find new tools- share the info!!!)
Another cool bit of editing free stuff can be found on PIXLR which is an online editing site which also has a cool online vintage effects area which is addictive once you start using it.


Many of you are starting to explore the use of video and animated GIFS in your work. This is hard to present in your books  and the BLOG is the perfect place to showcase small file size versions  of your motion graphics.


Try creating GIFS on Photoshop ( search the web for tutorials) There are loads of sites which create animations for you- if you've downloaded Photoscape you'll notice there is an animation area on there.
